Vermeer's paintings might be 350 year-old color photographs

Just finished watching it. It reminded me of a Mythbuster episode where they focused on Jamie’s strengths and weaknesses. I enjoyed it.

In the 1970s many, many painters were using a slide projector to help them make “photo realistic” paintings. The way they usually did it was to have a switch to turn off the light from the projector and turn on the studio lights quickly, so they could flash back and forth between projection and studio light. This way they could put the right color paint in the right spots. This was an update to the past camera obscura and lucinda techniques used by thousands of painters throughout history. Anyone can do it, but it takes a lot of practice to do it well and takes an artistic vision to make a painting worth looking at. I am a painter, I project images prepared in GIMP with a digital projector to help me get my paintings started. I finish them in a natural light studio in an expressionists manner. I am not interested in just copying a photo, but many painters are.
