Watch 96 million 'shade balls' pour into LA reservoir

Others have made better jokes, so I won’t.

I did want to mention that if this was for evaporation, which it’s not, there might be a very simple solution. When I owned a pool, I bought a product that claimed to coat the surface with a thin layer of <chemical, possibly an alcohol-like fluid> that would prevent evaporation. It came in a fish that you let float around like a chlorinate puck dispenser.

Hmmm… now that I search for this alleged fish, I can’t find it. Maybe it was a scam? I just took the claims on the box as true.

I wish you’d posted that earlier- after watching the video, my kids demanded that we find a satellite photo of the lake to see if it looked black. Took some time to find it, but yes, it did look pretty dark:

That’s not the same lake- see above.

I like ideas like this but I have to reluctantly accept (as others point out) that combined land use isn’t always so easy, especially when one is considering resources intended for human consumption.

San Francisco’s Sunset Reservoir is covered, so presents a different situation. But someone was thinking like you; half of it is covered in solar panels.

The interview with the guy on land was very informative, but the crap on the water… I generally dislike iPhone ‘journalists’ , the banter seemed awkward and … was he flirting with that lady? Were the operations people expecting more than a phone on a selfie stick?

This was a squandered opportunity to get better visuals. Too bad.

Only positive was guy didn’t launch into a Patreon pitch 5 seconds in.

Slightly amazed ‘can you walk on it?’ wasn’t the first question.
