This kind of stuff is why I’m glad my employer isn’t in the content creation business. I can’t imagine dealing with a big corporation like Google coming in and telling us how we’re going to create our apps and why. I hope eventually Google and company get hit with the anti-trust stick.

I used Feedly personally when google reader went away, but for reasons like you’ve cited above, I then moved to Inoreader instead. They also offer an API and much finer grained control over your feeds. I exported my feedly feeds and imported them there, and haven’t looked back.
