‘There was so much yellow and blue’: throwing a Eurovision viewing party in Kyiv
With the contest finishing long after the midnight curfew, most in the city watched the event at home
Seems one has to subscribe to Peacock to watch the Eurovision. I think my chances of this being shown at the local sports bar are slim.
Is the German entrant Doctorow?
If you’re going to be at home, it’s live-streamed on YouTube. You don’t get the commentary from a national broadcaster that way - for better or for worse.
Go raibh maith agat!
Well, looks like the “Americans stacking the deck for the UK and Ireland” didn’t happen…
We were robbed!
Also on a quick analysis of the top 10, the rest of world voting made zero difference in the final placements of any of them. But that’s a very, very quick analysis.
Very disappointed at how bad Germany did, Finland was my favourite on the night so it’s frustrating that they came so close, especially as I didn’t rate Sweden’s song at all.
Me neither, nor my daughter who is a rabid Eurovision fan. It was a great solo performance by Loreen but that song just isn’t that good.
OTOH UK deserved its low score. It was a pretty weak song and Mae Muller’s performance was poor. According to my daughter’s friends she’s known to be bad live.
A lot of people liked it.
Käärijä’s Eurovision song contest entry, Cha Cha Cha, has reached 151st place on Spotify’s global daily list of 200 songs.
This is the first time a Finnish-language song has made it to Spotify’s global top 200.
I didn’t mind the UK song this year. Wasn’t great but a better effort than a lot of their recent stuff.

UK singer misses their notes. Drink!
There were a few obvious and subtle attempts to use effects like reverb to mask the singer’s actual ability to hit a note.
Commenting a little late but the YouTube feed is usually geo restricted so that Americans can’t watch it without using a VPN.
Which isn’t an impossible hurdle, especially for those of us here, but for many people watching on smart TVs it’s too much of one.
SVT’s stream of it has for the past few years been available to the US without any sort of geoblocking and it can be cast to Chromecast devices. It just has Swedish audio commentary.
The UK did not want to win, so i wrote a song was shit, and clearly we had decided that hosting for Ukraine was enough, we tried with sam and we wont try for another 10 years now, like how Ireland only sends bad people because wining 3 or 5 years in row almost bankrupt them from having to host it.
Just like the Olympics, the uk is happy to basic in reflect glory by hosting large multinational events for other people…

Among the most unpopular entries was Estonia’s Alika, who performed in occupied Crimea in 2015, and Czechia’s Vesna. Their entry is supposed to be a celebration of Slavic sisterhood, with a chorus sung in Ukrainian, but one of the group is a Russian citizen and the watch party was not impressed. “Having a Russian sing this feels like cultural appropriation to us,” Tymoshenko said.
President Zelenskiy wasn’t allowed to address the crowd, but the contest was a four-hour anti-war protest – with extra neon, says Guardian columnist Zoe Williams
It popped up on my radar because the Queen forums were all a buzz about Roger Taylor performing with Sam Ryder.
I’m only somewhat aware of Sam Ryder from the Taylor Hawkins tribute concert where he shared the stage with the Foo Fighters and Queen.
Mountain was a cool song and quite the production.
