Soyt-enly!! But my understanding is that cops have a way of developing amnesia when it comes to that requirement. Me? I would just parrot back “lawyer, now, please” to each cop-utterance.
Nothing you say after you invoke your right to counsel and silence is admissible in court if they initiate the questioning. Pressuring you into giving up your rights also makes anything you say inadmissible.
The rules around this have been around for 50 years.
I am simply posting what cops come back with anyway even after one invokes their right to counsel and in spite of the laws. That’s all.
