Ugh, it’s reimbursement based? Christ, do they audit you as well?

I think like most insurance some things are reimbursed and some things can be handled between the provider and ODSP. Like most of my CPAP supplies are covered when my respiratory therapist says I need them. If I have a nice RT then I get 8 2L bottles of distilled water included for the year (I go through 12/13 a year), when I don’t get the nice one, then I have to pay for the distilled water and can apply for reimbursement, which I don’t because I don’t want to give them my grocery recipes for the year to get back $6 to $20.

Medical travel if you or a family member drives you, you can can be reimbursed for the millage and parking if you have to travel more than 40KM in a month. If you have to take a taxi, it must be preapproved and booked through a third party agency which finds the lowest bidder for the ride.

I could be audited at any point if they think I have too much $$, or I don’t claim any extra income I make, or if somebody thinks I no longer qualify for my “disability” status.
If I no longer meet the standard of having a “disability” before I am 65, I have to pay back any money I got for my Canadian Disability Grant, so I am afraid to invest it in any long term GICs, because I am hopeful I will get better and I am pessimistic enough to think if there was any way the conservatives can change the rules so I no longer qualify for it they will.

Pre covid and with a bad case worker I probably went to my GP about 6 times a year, at least 3 of those visits would just be for filling out paperwork for something I need, and I would be rushed or run out of time to actually talk to my Doctor about my health problems. Since covid I haven’t seen my doctor in person, but I have talked to him by phone about every 6 months and my doctors office can talk to my case worker by phone for anything I need. So cutting out the extra bureaucracy has saved the tax payer $$ and being able to do things remotely has saved them more.

In my opinion it saves the tax payer money if I don’t have to jump through hoops to get every little benefit, because each hoop takes an expensive medical professional and a social workers time and energy to be approved and as my covid experience has shown, not necessary to get things done. Well at least I’m creating work for people and that is adding to the economy right?

But that would be so-sha-lizz-ummmm!!!. My youngest brother was born very premature and had he survived would’ve been severely physically and mentally handicapped.

the ONLY thing shocking about this story is that it’s in Canada.
I totally expect this sort of horror in the US because that’s the land of “F U Capitalism” where money is more valuable than human life.

how tragic.

Unfortunately for the world, we’ve been highly successful at exporting our brand of FU capitalism.

I’m sorry.
