You can call me AI

Cloudflare does have a real business, and I gather that they do it well. (Except when protecting the scum of the universe, but that’s a different issue.) They are going to let their customers set the blocks and pricing. Good so far, but … I have a section of crawler blocks on my site with comments like “Nothing in their grandiose business model benefits my site. Bye!”

That it’s not autoblock, and we’re discussing the terms seems bad. (Crossing the streams bad.)

Everyone inside the auditorium at the Moscone Center groaned. Any notion that the award-winning comedian would play the corporate gig safe (and clean) were thrown out the window Thursday, when Mulaney, closing the Dreamforce festivities, started roasting his host, Salesforce, and the audience sitting right in front of him.

“You look like a group who looked at the self-checkout counters at CVS and thought, ‘This is the future,’” Mulaney said.

“If AI is truly smarter than us and tells us that [humans] should die, then I think we should die,” he said, looking out to the crowd from center stage. “So many of you feel imminently replaceable.”

He added, “Can AI sit there in a fleece vest? Can AI not go to events and spend all day at a bar?”

We here at the Department of Energy wanted to thank you for being conscientious about your energy usage this summer. Your efforts haven’t gone unnoticed. As a token of our gratitude, we wanted to highlight all the small but powerful steps you’ve taken to conserve energy over the past few months—and how that energy has instead been used to fuel the insatiable beast that is AI.

Thanks @Brainspore!

Was just saying to someone today that Cameron had been doing the rounds of interviews with the most asshole director takes since Ridley Scott “historians think I’m full of shite? Were they there? I thought not. How do they know?” With his “I’ve shite dialogue in some of my films? Well what are your highest grossing films that allow you to have an opinion?”

What a wanker.

To be fair I always knew he was a wanker, right from plagiarising and then suing the magazine who published the interview where he cheerfully admitted plagiarising. And then the time he blamed the cost of True Lies on unions not allowing 24 hour shoots (while he spent millions doing a shot with real explosions, helicopters and stunt people and then spent millions redoing it digitally instead).

Cough cough… Microsoft.

How much did they lose last year? Five billion dollars? What are their revenues? A couple hundred million dollars? How many of its founders and senior executives has it shed? (all of them, trick question, Altman came back).

That company stinks. Hope MS enjoy their new millstone!

machine learning / pattern recognition are not AI and can be useful. but nothing “positive” comes out of gen"AI". none. zero. zilch.

in other news;

OpenAI CEO made absurd requests for 36 fabs for $7 trillion.

The NYT report claims that during Altman’s visit to Taiwan, he told TSMC execs that he envisioned a $7 trillion investment over several years. The result would be 36 new semiconductor plants and data centers driving AI forward. TSMC execs allegedly found Altman’s ideas absurd, and according to one of the NYT’s sources, the chipmaking execs subsequently called Altman a “podcasting bro.” Even implementing a fraction of the OpenAI CEO’s ideas would be incredibly risky, the execs are said to have openly pondered

does this insanity sound positive or useful?
