I used to work at the hospital, and I've seen the Elephant Man collection. It doesn't just include the skeleton, but also a cardboard model of the London Hospital that Merrick made, and a death mask (I think - not a life mask). If the bones have been so heavily bleached, perhaps they can find DNA on the other items from his life at the hospital. On the other hand, they may not wish to damage the fragile model. It was fascinating to me to see it - the man that so many thought was a monster in his time was actually a Maker, in the boing boing sense.
