Oh good. It’s not just the US that’s being fucked by financial inequality.
Is that more or less than the amount owned by the top 1% during Feudalism?
It’s been that way for a long time, and it’s getting worse:
But the other half is owned by foreign entities.
How much is effectively owned by the royal family?
Now on to step 2: convincing people that concentration of wealth and power isn’t evidence of a “natural,” “merit”-based system, but rather evidence that - left unchecked (or, “unfettered” if you’re nasty marxist ) - wealth accumulation is aided by existing wealth in an exponential fashion.
Considering the Queen is God’s representative on earth, I estimate the entire universe is hers to command should she wish it so.
Much more. 100% in fact. In a feudalistic system, only the crown holds land. All others are tenants. But I see your point. Same as it ever was and all that.
Came to say the same thing. Hasn’t England always worked this way?
Well the good news, if you want to look at it that way, is that the 1% has lost about 50% of their land values since the Brexit vote. Of course, there’s always collateral damage. But for sure, a crash in real estate values hurts the rich more than the poor. BTW, if you really want to get outraged about British land ownership, check out the Inclosure Acts. A huge “WTF!?”
The Crown, and the Royal Family = 1.4% according to the article.
The population of England is substantially more than the 2,500,000 this would suggest. The Guardian article says “less than” 1%: if we’re really talking about only 25,000 landowners, that’s less than 0.1% of the population, even if you only count adults.
Is the other half owned by foreign investors?
How much is Paul McCarthy and JK Rowling?
Except church land (before the reformation). The church had a ton of land in some places.
Was church land allodial?
