13-year-old kills it as Jean Valjean in Les Mis

so good. i can never get enough of that story, either on page, a musical, or theatrical production. that kid is amazing – i can see him owning the stage as Gavroche.

So glad to see BB get back to its roots: a wonderful thing, indeed!

The other way of looking at it: is Jean Valjean ultimately just a 13-year-old kid in an adult’s body?

Certainly in the book, Valjean is as he is because it was deemed to be one of the two routes he could take when his deep seated bitterness from his years as a convict is suddenly confronted by an inordinate act of kindness. I suspect that’s not really a position a 13 year old kid could appreciate.
