There must be a video (from way back) out there of the time a question-and-answer period with Lynch turned oddly dark and in a Lynchian way: A fellow in the audience asked Lynch about his scriptwriting process, and (somewhat proudly) pinned that query on the fact that he – the questioner – had in his possession the original alternate script for one of Lynch’s films. Lynch’s elaborate, mostly indirect response finally spiraled down to his main point: That the alternate script should not have made it into the questioner’s hands, and that he would be spoken to after the interview about that.
