So last night was weird. I had a dream where Puff the Magic Dragon was playing on the radio and it actually woke me up with how sad it made me. There are there are a couple songs that are either too nostalgic or too sad (or in this case, both) that get me every time. And when I woke up woke up, my brain was obsessing about that song and would not stop. I’m literally crying on Christmas morning about an imaginary dragon whom I loved as a kid too.
So I had to sit down and write a happy ending for Puff. As I understand it, at one point there was another verse, and later the writer wrote a book with a happy ending. But here is my version, I hope it makes some people happy.
And Merry Christmas!
Then next week when walking, sad Puff saw a curl,
It was long and soft and yellow, and attatched to a little girl,
She wasn’t scared of dragons, though fierce they may be,
And she had sailed all by herself, to the land of Honahlee.Looking sad and lonely, she said, “Do you want to play?”
Puff put her on his scaley back, and flew down to the bay.
She said, “Hi, my name is Mary, will you by my friend?”
Puff wiped his tears and smiled, 'cuz his tale would never end.[Chorus]
OH! Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honahlee
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honahlee
