So the post and thread got this far without even mentioning indigeneity? (Unless I missed it.) Huh.
My first thought upon seeing the “quiet western” concept was the largely vanquished “Indian” population. They had to be chased out, led out or just plain eradicated from so many places before all that peace and quiet and “nature” and “open space” and such could be enjoyed by invaders and their descendants.
Now I wonder how many such “quiet” films are meant to register that absence, maybe as a kind of haunting presence.
