Trademarks and related IP rights don’t give complete ownership of a word or name, just in a certain scope of usage (trade). e.g. the border conflicts between Apple Records and Apple Computer, before the war when Apple Computer invaded music. I imagine the rights to “Mickey Mouse” are very broad indeed!
TSR Hobbies Inc was obviously within the fantasy scope of Lord of the Rings. A creepy cybercrud company, not so much. (And maybe money changed hands?)
