My uncle supposedly derailed a train to get fired from the Union Pacific. I was young at the time so I never got all the facts, but that’s what I overheard being discussed. He went on to take his pension and live pretty much as a hermit in the Rocky Mountains, so it actually tracks with this story, minus the Navy ship…
