It’s just that it isn’t very helpful to compare it to Mao’s rule or the cult of the little red book. The Chinese Communist Party of today is about as Communist as the British Labour Party.

I would argue that even in the 70s the cult of personality around Mao was stronger than adherence to any kind of consistent view of communist economic theory.
