All the big U.S. airlines are banning hoverboards as in-flight fire risk

yes - thanks. in particular the (ugh) buzzfeed story talked about the whole supply chain.

why? marketing. that is all.

“That’s not a hoverboard!” is the new “Get off my lawn!”

Also: I look forward to buying a broken [whatever we should call these] or two in January for $20 to scrounge parts!

I’m waiting for the flood of fisheye lens YouTube videos of extreme dweebs doing lame stunts on flaming hoverboards.

They are also bigger. You don’t have a 4 pound battery in a laptop.

I’d imagine these things are also more likely to have a physically damaged battery, because of how they are used.

Because people are so sick of not having real hoverboards that they’ve finally given up and are willing to apply it to anything even remotely close, even if no hovering is actually involved. It’s 2015, and it involves a board, so… close enough, apparently.

Next: When self-driving cars are finally made available, they’ll be referred to as “flying cars”. Or possibly even “time machines”.
