A family friend of ours has the distinction of being a cardiologist and rather prolific mushroom hunter, he’s also served as an expert witness on poisoning cases that relate to eating the wrong fungus. I’m honestly a little surprised that this happened to an Amish community, most of the cases he got brought in on were families who emigrated from somewhere with a similar, but edible local shroom.
