When I was a boy, our first “family computer” (c. 1994) came with an encyclopedia package on CD-ROM, and it had a few animations not dissimilar to these.
Anyhow, what I really came to say was that I couldn’t agree more with the characterization “infernal.” The world is so much more fragile because of these things.

@beschizza You might just have buried the lede, there.
This may be a small rabbit hole to disappear down (and it IS a ‘wonderful thing’) but the much, much huger rabbit hole is the link on that home page to 507 Mechanical Movements

Ah - I should have known. I missed that particular rabbit hole at the time. I’m just glad he hasn’t yet animated all 507 or I’d be there forever!!
