Thanks, but we do have a copy. My husband has read it, but I haven’t had the time to do so yet.

You’ve just admitted to driving trollies, and under different screen names. That’s against the guidelines here and probably at any of the other places where you have engaged in such fraud.

He does ahave a point on knee jerk reaction; which you just did right now.

The rules are just for everyone else, not special people like you, right?

Gamergater types boast about breaking rules and community norms in order to trigger the “censorship” that makes them get that warm bitter feeling inside.

I never said that I’m special, though I admit that I’m selfish.

But let give this troll some credit, at least he explains their toxic behaviors for the most part. Shame that he’s blind that this mentality is toxic to victims of organized oppression.

Hmm, I wonder if there’s a pattern here.

Let’s say a woman writer from Vancouver writes about how it’s crass sexism for Wonderbra, a company in South Africa, to sponsor a National Cleavage Day. The author also writes about the harassment she received on Twitter as a result.

Now, how would a selfish person respond? Probably by arguing with her and harassing her on twitter, right?

Possibly, but if that’s true, wouldn’t magazines have moved away from building issues specifically for “men” and “women” by now? If the pot of gold is so large, why do things like Cosmopolitan still exist and seem to be very profitable? GTA 5 is so obviously built around a menu of male tastes, and it made zillions.

I think the explanation is that building media that panders to gender is probably more profitable than building a watered down experience that appeals to “everyone”, since you can scratch all the right itches. And violence, as supported by the many stats I cited upstream, is a particularly male itch. (So is porn, which is a related urge. 26% in the last 24 hours!)

The problem with Egalia and gender-neutral toy catalogs is that boys and girls, on average, do not have identical interests, propensities, or needs. Twenty years ago, Hasbro, a major American toy manufacturing company, tested a playhouse it hoped to market to both boys and girls. It soon emerged that girls and boys did not interact with the structure in the same way. The girls dressed the dolls, kissed them, and played house. The boys catapulted the toy baby carriage from the roof. A Hasbro manager came up with a novel explanation: “Boys and girls are different.”

While I completely agree that there should be a wide range of media and game choices for everyone, building games that outright pander to the perceived – and more than perceived, backed up by extensive behavioral data which I cited above – interests of a specific audience or gender doesn’t seem wrong to me. And is clearly wildly popular, and wildly profitable.

(They should still offer female avatars as a choice, in all cases.)

Then Lauren Faust came along and change My Little Pony FOREVER.

Does that make it clearer for you?

The answer is embedded in the question.

I guess?

I see your point, but I’d also argue that gender cuts a lot deeper than race in terms of mapping interest and behaviors, as the porn and violence stats I posted above indicate. There are really dramatic 10:1 differences … or more.

If you’d care to point out where I’ve been dishonest I’d appreciate it, otherwise leave me out of your bullshit reply with no other context for me to understand what the fuck you’re talking about.

I think she’s dishonest. Clearly others agree with me. Why do you crusaders think you’re going to change minds by bringing up talking points we’ve already encountered and already dismissed.

Protip: this is how you subtly call someone something without saying “hint: it’s you”

edit: Not sure what I’m evading except yet more unproductive name-calling.

Should all movies come out as choose-your-own-adventure style productions in which your sex and the sex of other characters is audience-selectable? Does the creator of the art get any say in the matter of their own creation or is the player god now?

Does one’s sex change their ability to understand protecting stuff/people you care about as a motivational influence? Do women not feel an equally strong desire to protect the people they love?
