While some of her crowd probably don’t know what “woke” means because they’ve never once taken the time to think about it beyond a generic buzzword they’re told to fear, if she’s written a whole book about it I’m guessing she does know, but realizes that there’s no way to actually define it without instantly exposing herself as the monster she is. I guess enough of her ilk are still too timid to embrace their Nazihood without justifying it by pretending to be afraid of some nebulous threat to their way of life, and outright admitting “I’m against equality, truth, compassion and justice” shatters the illusion that they’re in any way the victims.

Wasn’t there something floating around the internet several years ago about a black man who had gotten many klansmen to quit simply by befriending them and just talking to them? I mean, if its true he had to have the patience of a saint, but I’m pretty sure that went the other way around with this lady.

Before this was even a word that anyone used, I can think back in time to assholes that I worked with over the years that would get bent because they were called out for their shit behavior. “Man, you can’t even say anything to anyone anymore” or some shit like that.

While I’m far from a linguist or social specialist, my armchair view is that woke means both “anything I find yucky/too different from myself” AND “the positive state of realizing that ‘the man’/‘mainstream media’ is against you”.
It’s basically a generic word that fits in in the same way “like” does for a valley girl.

I do have some academic background in linguistics, and language is communication, and using a “noun” or “adjective” need not align with a specific “definition” in terms of a set of attributes that characterize those things or properties. In this case I believe it communicates a desire to cause harm to others without any accountability (or reason, which I believe can be construed as a type of accountability).
I also think it means “I don’t want to be held accountable for the harm I do to others because I fear accountability”.

Well, I’m personally happy with these types of enlightening responses as they help expose the real intent of the word when used by those on the right. It gets harder when they come up with plausibly sounding BS explanations.
I suppose this is why the right has come to embrace the bald-faced liar.

The “real” intent of the world was to describe being aware of oppression as it actually exists.

This is a very old pattern used by the far right - the twisting of language for their own ends. Most certainly, Orwell would very much understand how the far right is currently wrenching this term right out of it’s original meaning.

This is all it is.
I explain to my 86 year old right wing dad that the word “woke” is the shortened form of “respectful”.
Whenever you see the word “woke” in a newspaper (especially when used as a pejorative) replace it with the word “respectful” and you’ll have the true story.
