My company use to do that for the higher ups. They don’t lay you off, they put you on a “special project” which lasts about 6 months. Plenty of time to find a new job.

Not how this is being read in the Apple world. Daringfireball’s Gruber thinks it’s to head up the AR project, now that it’s getting closer to RR (real-reality).
