Here’s another example in my area. The cabin john bridge is one of the main bridge connections between VA/MD/DC. It is over 50 years old and in need of major repairs that never seem to happen. The daily traffic over it are 7X what was originally accounted for. When it falls down, will it be the fault of the original enginners? Should they have accounted for little to no maintenance and massive increases in daily traffic? Should they have know that vehicles got heavier?
7x traffic vs there are already ships this size.
There’s no point in deigning a bridge against supertanker assault if the super tanker is just going to get stuck in the Chesapeake bay. I’m pretty sure that some of the bay is dredged, just to get to New Panamax standard.
