Oh Ghu yes, it makes my ears bleed.
But what an interesting setting for a game! I had to stop and think: what is this alt-USSR all about? Where and how did it deviate?
And the answer, I think, is Stalin and the cult of personality. For whatever reason (I haven’t played the game that long, so it may betray all of this in the end), it does not appear that Stalin existed in this world. The Party runs things as a continuation of how things were run before Stalin, which, in the 20s, when it happened, made for a very different Soviet Union from the one under Stalin. Eisenstein was a product of that early Bolshevism, for example.
Just a thought. Like I say, it may turn out to be an authoritarian nightmare in the end (after all, the hero is an assassin for the State).
