I’m a trifle confused about what the Author’s Guild hopes to gain here: ‘works with rightsholders who cannot be located, for distribution within some academic libraries’ is about as non-lucrative a niche as one could imagine, so it can’t be direct financial interest.
Is it just a philosophical commitment to copyright maximalism? The desire to nip a perceived trend in the bud before somebody they suspect of being markedly more dangerous and aggressive(eg. Google) gets into the game?
