It ain’t Nippon Pro Baseball without a full brass band in the fan section of the stand.
The best part of Japanese baseball is the fans. When your team is up to bat there’s a chant and a song for every player… and when your opponent is at bat, dead silence on your side, other than the ruffling of newspapers and the call of the beerslingers.
Since football started up again in England (without crowds), broadcasters have been showing games with fake crowd noise over the top, complete with cheers for goals and 'oooh’s for near misses. And it’s fucking awful. Everyone knows there’s no-one there and everyone knows the ‘crowd’ is fake so why do it? They don’t do it for matches in the lower leagues with low attendances.
Fortunately most broadcasters have the option of watching without the fake crowd and I much prefer it.
OK, but people still need to get in and out through small gates and frankly it’s an unnecessary risk, with a lot of extra work involved for little if no benefit.
Some teams in England have big screens with (live?) video of fans watching at home (which seems pretty pointless TBH).
Hey. That’s baseball. No one stays that focused. It’s really just about the experience of being outdoors at an event more than anything. You phase in and out.
