This is really pretty and well done … I’m gonna see if I can check out his process.
I did something like this WAY back … but tile-based and fully wrapping. I REALLY should finish this as I was so far (got a whole tile handler, procedural generation, cities, zooming, waypointing etc etc):
Check out the visual similarities (this was on android in 2013):
