This echoes nicely with a blogpost I did several years ago (titled, coincidentally enough, “Beautiful Damage”.) Mine were color negatives, so there’s even more weird things going on due to the emulsion layers being damaged differently.

I can’t agree that these are beautiful. I merely see them as sad. I’m the sort who mourns those so lost to history that everyone who knew them is dead. To see their last images thus erased just strikes me as unutterably sad.
