Having not been through the check, myself, I can’t say what they specifically review, but I imagine that its value isn’t in screening people out, but having full records on people bypassing security for easy investigation in the event of a terrorist attack.
Kings and tyrants never cared about the bowing and the scraping for its own sake, they cared about the bowing and the scraping to remind people who’s in charge.
TSA might be actually one of the most efficacious environmental organisations.
People like to forget that flying is probably the worst thing you individually can do concerning climate change. Well, next to procreation maybe (unless your child is the next Genghis Khan). If the TSA convinces even a small percentage of people not to fly…
At Burbank, where one of the baggage claims is outdoors, I noticed that a bag had been left unattended by the wall for at least 40 minutes. I was there picking someone up and their flight was delayed, so I’d been waiting for a while. Everyone who was there when I arrived had gone.
So heeding all the PA warnings about unattended baggage, I went to the nearest staff window and reported the bag. The guy came out, looked at the bag … and dragged it the 100 feet to his window and put it with a dozen other bags. I spent the rest of the time waiting as far away as possible.
Wasn’t the guy who shot up Vegas very well off, spending six figures on fancy, perfectly legal, killing machines? I mean for plinking cans and killing deer, and defending against tyranny, of course. And FEMA.
Thanks for that.
They call that “Layers of Security (TM, patent pending)”.
Oh, the gun fetishists have gotten in the thread somehow.
Incidentally, I seem to get TSA pre-check for free nearly every flight. I like to think this is because I’m on a lot of government watch lists.
Unfortunately when the founding fathers eliminated the peerage, they created a blind spot where a different kind of royalty could thrive, one where Noblesse Oblige became a quaint outdated tradition. Feudal Europe had ways of keeping the nobility in check- and American democracy has not yet figured out how to control its own parasitic counterpart.
He was a mass murderer cause he was white christian? Would of been a terrorist if he was non white and muslim?
Health care?
TSA’s whole focus appears to be on preventing the last big terrorist attack (9/11). The next big one is probably not going to involve hijacking planes. Terrorists are deluded in a lot of ways, but they are not dumb, and they are capable of thinking up something different and damaging, and less likely to be detected. Meanwhile we are still going through the time and expense and indignity involved in making sure bad Muslims with weapons don’t get on a plane again.
Cable companies and telcos come to mind.
Why would they? Everything is fine from where they’re standing.
Definitely not rich, but travel by air constantly (average 6 planes a week) Because I have Global Entry I also get precheck, and because I travel so much Delta (who owns Clear) gave me Clear for free, as indicated it helps but we still go through xray & metal detectors, which the article forgot to mention.
Yeah, actually most big companies that don’t have many competitors do the same.
