No sir-ee, no such thing as systemic racism in the US.
āWe recognize that this video has made members of our community upset and are calling for an internal affairs investigation,ā police said, urging anyone with additional videos of the incident to share them with law enforcement.
Umm, yeah, the video made people upset, not the racist actions of the cops. They were clearly doing their job, protecting a vulnerable, innocent white child from a violent thug. Right?
Itās the same argument as why high school students canāt read Maus, because the book itself is upsetting, not the time period in history.
After todayās news, Iām not expecting severe penalties. This is costing taxpayers, though.
In 2015, John DeRossett opened fire on Brevard County Sheriffās deputies trying to enforce a warrant on his niece, who court filings say was alleged to have used a bedroom in DeRossettās home for prostitution.
DeRossettās attorney said his client didnāt know who was coming into his home, according to Florida Today.
Prosecutors charged DeRossett, a white man, with a first-degree felony attempted murder of a law enforcement officer. But after spending five years in jail awaiting trial, a court agreed that stand your ground applies in his case. Floridaās Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals agreed and dismissed the case.
Stand Your Ground law has been verified in court as applying when a white man shoots at police. Does it apply when itās a Black man? I guess we shall see.
Just two yearsā¦
well thatās no good:
A woman is dead and five others are injured after gunfire broke out during a protest against police killings in Northeast Portland on Saturday evening.
PPB did, however, point blame at witnesses for not speaking to police at the scene.
Hm. I wonder if thereās a connection between those two things.
Good news for everyone hoping for a just verdict against Ahmaud Arberyās murderers. Now I guess we just have to cross our fingers and hope that the judge doesnāt get all teary-eyed during sentencing and declare that these poor men are good-hearted folks who just made an unfortunate mistake and let them off with a slap on the wrist.
Even if he did, that wouldnāt affect their life sentences that they already received in state court for murder, right?
It would if some Republican Governor decided that āthese good olā boys have suffered enough for protecting their homesā and pardons or commutes them.
Good point.
Foley said Lockett didnāt know there was a warrant for his arrest until he got a call from authorities at 9:30 a.m. on Feb. 7, about an hour before his death. He told authorities he wanted to call his attorney and turn himself in, Foley said.
cops in unmarked cars apparently shooting at him before they announced themselves as cops, possibly before their car even stopped moving, for a guy who was willing to turn himself in for an alleged theft where no was hurt
Fortunately, Kemp, for all his awfulness, has not shown a desire to do anything other than condemn these men for what they did. He has not downplayed the racism of their actions, the harm he caused to the community, and fully supported repealing the racist law that made them think they could get away with shooting Ahmaud Arbery in the first place. Stop watch and all, but still. He did the right thing here, and I doubt heāll do something as foolish as try and intervene with their sentenceā¦ Heāll be horrible in other ways to try and get the far right voteā¦
