Black Lives Matter. Still

NEW YORK — Diahann Carroll, the Oscar-nominated actress and singer who won critical acclaim as the first black woman to star in a non-servant role in a TV series as “Julia,” has died. She was 84.

During her long career, Carroll earned a Tony Award for the musical “No Strings” and an Academy Award nomination for “Claudine.”

But she was perhaps best known for her pioneering work on “Julia.” Carroll played Julia Baker, a nurse whose husband had been killed in Vietnam, in the groundbreaking situation comedy that aired from 1968 to 1971.

Edit:

A much better bio:

Which includes this nugget:

“ Christine Jorgensen taught her how to “carry” herself onstage, she said”

Let the theories begin

If any other witnesses come up missing, it will not be a theory.

Witnesses told police they heard gunshots and saw a silver, four-door sedan leave the parking lot where Brown was shot, according to WFAA. Police did not release descriptions of any suspects.

Did the sedan look like this?

The unjustified shooting death of Botham Jean by Dallas police officer Amber Guyger sent shockwaves through America. Guyger entered his apartment allegedly thinking it was her own and shot him dead. Now the lone witness to the Botham Jean shooting has stated her life is in turmoil and she is being labeled a Black radical.

The witness has been identified only as Bunny and has stated that she recorded Guyger on her cellphone after hearing the fatal shots and Botham asking Guyger why did you shoot me. That video was seized by prosecutors and has not been seen by the public. In addition, she was placed under a gag order by the prosecution and cannot discuss the details of the video in public. Despite the fact she was only a witness to the shooting, she has received death threats and now she says she has been fired from her job.

According to her, people began contacting the pharmaceutical company where she worked claiming that she was a radical, anti-police and a Black extremist. As a result, she claims the company did not want the publicity and fired her as well as revoking the credentials of her profession.

Officer Pasquale Storace III

What a straight-to-video cartoon villain name! Did his parents plan to raise a racist shitbag, or could they just tell when they first looked at him?

But it’s not just him. This family was arrested, handcuffed, taken to jail, and had to be bailed out the next day with actual money by their relatives. (And then the welcome home party sparked another round of racism.) Even though it was their own home, the police department as a whole did not back down.

The whole story is outrageous. It’s like that department is just begging, “Could we please get a federal consent decree? Kthx.”

Of relevance far beyond the UK:

While the principal had the usual ‘no big deal’ response, it seems the superintendent of the school system IS taking it seriously, which is a good step in the right direction:

Seriously, in DFW, right after the Guyger sentencing? Shooting into someone’s house?!

I don’t know whether to cry or scream. Maybe both.

Fuck this timeline. There is not even an action for this one. Killed for being while black. Apparently since they found her gun it will be justified, since all that “freedom comes from a gun” shit only applies to white people. @DukeTrout, I pick screaming. I also feel for the neighbor who has to feel like he is partially responsible for this. His quote about “if you cant feel safe with the police who can you feel safe with” is amazingly naive, especially coming from a black man.

Some good counterarguments when people claim that southern blacks supported the Confederacy:

IIRC, aren’t most of the commonly cited examples those of slaves? Any “support” for the confederacy would more likely have been either a) a lie to avoid punishment or b) Stockholm Syndrome.

Because the article says that the myth was made up later, but you could probably find original documents or interviews that “support” the myth… if you ignore the context.
