That photo, uncaptioned, can stand as a generic “f*ck you” meme image in response to white supremacists.
My first guess was that photo was taken a Whitney Plantation, a place I wish every white American had to visit.
My first reaction was anger that there is an effort to obstruct this investigation, but at the same time, having this event in the headlines (hat tip to Watchmen) may force more people to deal with the fact that it occured at all.
Lack of stated reasons in the article (though soil scanning is acceptable) makes me think it might have something to do with disturbing the graves of people who had been interred more recently.
Still, it must be recognized and the victims found in the least invasive means possible (including to the families of victims).
Agreed, which is why my anger response changed to one of “at least people are paying attention to the fact that this happened.” Hopefully, that continues. But yes, the burials must be respected and research conducted in a minimally invasive manner.

The initial posts are deliberate provocations in pursuit of a broader point; the responses (and responses to the responses) are fascinating.

Gotta love that these slimy grubs are at least outing themselves. If we ever return to sanity, these folks will be remembered.
Legitimate question: If this had been the discovery of a Confederate graveyard, would there have been as much “questioning” of what needed to be done?
We need some good news.
“If you’re Black, you were born in jail, in the North as well as the South. Stop talking about the South. Long as you south of the Canadian border, you’re south.”
— Malcolm X
And in more than a few places north of it.
I keep saying this whenever someone pops up to sneer and moralize about the south, and how we should just let it secede, like that wanted way back then. Yeah, no.
[ETA] This is what’s happening around here:
If people think that splitting the south off will solve these problems for the rest of the country, they need to look at the situation in places that are dealing with millions of refugees from elsewhere. Because you split the country, that’s one of the consequences, millions of people fleeing their home.
