I know this is crazy, but the cadence of this reminds me of the poetry readings of Waddie Mitchell, a cowboy poet my mother was a fan of, and whom I’ve grown fond of. I’m not going to link to any particular recording of his, not because they aren’t out there, but because there isn’t a specific one I can pull from memory that justifies the association. I know nothing of mr. Mitchell’s politics or social views, so I am not trying to hold him up as an ally or anything. It’s just for me, I think the “folksy” (as in folk music, music of the people) tone of this really speaks volumes, and unites in a way that I’ve felt only from a few poets.
In other words, I thoroughly enjoyed Mr. Touré’s words and wish as many people as possible could hear and feel them. Thanks for sharing.
A useful resource thread for abolitionists:
Very subtle but funny:
The first two links at the beginning of this short piece go to articles about the subject being mentioned, and then a little further down there is one more (the only hotlink they’d be likely to check) but all of the other links go to various supports for BLM and George Floyd and anti-racism information.

Intersections.
This thread could probably use some unicorn about now…
Not to mention the Deaf black people shot by cops for communicating with their hands because the cops thought they were throwing gang signs.
Worst sangría ever
Or the best…depends on your viewpoint!
It’s got a tiny human in it.
A very cute tiny little human in it, but still, 2/10 would not drink.
Best Citrus Bath, ever.
She’s even got Capybaras beat:
See, this is racism, that due to my white blindspot, I never imagined existed.
# Black birdwatchers push back against stereotypes, racism with #BlackBirdersWeek
#BlackBirdersWeek is a global online movement sparked by a racist incident in Central Park.
eta: That video autoplays. I’ll un-embed it.
Ah, it’s from that Central Park incident. I didn’t realize that anyone doubted that he was a birdwatcher. (But of course they did.)
Last weekend I went wandering from a park through off-limits areas looking for grasshoppers. I’m well aware in moments like that how differently I’m treated because I look like a scientist “is supposed to look.” Its a major issue for racialized naturalists of all kinds. Most of the time is spent wandering and investigating (often with camera and/or binoculars) and for many in our society, that is always met with suspicion.
They done screwed up: when attacking peaceful protestors, make sure to not bash the head of the president of the Chicago Police Board. He has named his police attacker, and has the full support of the mayor to file a formal complaint.
edited to add: in case you’re wondering, yes, he is a black man. Quelle surprise.
The Chicago Police Board is an independent body made up of civilians, providing oversight to certain aspects of the Chicago Police Department. Foreman has been the president for the last two years.
Are we sure they didn’t realize exactly who he was?
