Done and done but I still got a pony in the race!
Might I suggest we vote on a fiction book first then? Wider scope for devouring the thing without necessarily researching references?

I would be up for that. Originally I thought we’d be voting for both at the same time, but voting for only one sub-group at the time makes makes much more sense. There are 14 Fiction books there right now; there’s still time to submit (or remove?) suggestions if someone wishes to.
I think that sounds splendid!
I concur. I love y’all for your depth, but only secondarily. Most of all, I love y’all for your fun. And though our nonfiction candidates are all thought-provoking, few look like what you might call your basic “blast.”
Many of the fiction ones look good to me, for this time of year.
Le sigh, I sent him one of these with a “welcome to the club” message and now he thinks that he is a special flower…
Okay, so voting is a go?
I’m gonna go make a proposal for each Fiction book and give us 2 days to vote. that way everyone on different time zones and schedules have the time to vote. If we’re done voting before that, then even better. If we need more time, it can be changed.
Remember: vote on each book.
Vote “Agree” on books you would like to read during the next few months; it’s okay, and encouraged, to vote yes on several books.
Vote “Disagree” if you would not like to read this book right now, but it would not be the end of world.
Vote “Block” only if you have a serious objection to the book (like if it’s unavailable or wayyy too long), pretty much meaning you won’t be reading it.
Vote “Abstain” if you’re not sure or have no opinion, basically letting others decide for you when it comes to that book.
Discussion about the books on their own “pages” is encouraged; either if you’re unsure, have questions or just want to convince others (one way or another). You can also change your vote at any time.
Voting ends on 25/1/15 at 12:00 GMT. Let’s do this!
Just to let everyone know, don’t take it personally but I think I’m going to be voting “abstain” on every book. I really don’t have a preference and am happy to go with the majority vote.
When I do have a preference in future, I will vote accordingly. I’m not always so wishy-washy!
Oh! I started setting up voting for the nonfiction books, too! My bad!
I was just liking everything I haven’t read and abstaining on the stuff I had. Maybe I should be more choosy, but isn’t the point to read something I wouldn’t have otherwise?
Some books might be worth a re-read?
I voted on all of the fiction books and left the non fiction books un-voted. Maybe it’s the iPad interface I’m using just now but it didn’t seem to tally my vote when I went back into the conversation page. I’ll check again in a few minutes. It also doesn’t seem to present me with the option to elaborate on the reason for my vote. Will try and figure that out for later voting rounds.
Also to add; I might be the only person voting ‘no’ so far. It’s not that I don’t like the book. I just don’t like the person who suggested it…
Just kidding I love you all and your suggestions are awesome. I voted no for some books but only to accentuate the choice for this round. I will be voting yes for those same books in later rounds.
Not seeing any no votes…
*rolls up sleeves
Aha!
iPad wants me to double select. I voted no for Gravitys Rainbow (one of my suggestions). I get the impression some of y’all have absolutely inhaled it but I think it’s a bit heavy for a first round pick. Especially for me.
Aaah… should I just reset those all?
ETA: Well I’m deleting the non-fiction proposals because I was under the impression that we’re doing only one sub-group at a time? They can be set up again if needed, but right now all the open proposals seem to create confusion. I just dislike the fact that after you’ve closed a proposal, it will still show all the answers of the previous proposal, there’s no permanent delete.
Okay! Sorry for the screw up on my part! Glad you’re kicking ass and taking charge!
Don’t worry about it! Using a new tool with several participants, there’s bound to be some confusion. Now if only I could decide how to vote…
DONG
When did we decide on fiction over nonfiction? did we vote? I thought the whole point of voting was to decide the issue.
We decided to make two categories, and read a book from each one after another. It’s not that we won’t be reading non-fiction, just that we’re doing fiction first. At least this is what has been suggested by me and others and there have been no objections.
