The kindle versions of computer books can often be difficult to read.
If you find yourself aggravated by the fact that kindle books contain fuzzy jpegs of equations, perhaps another vender would suit?

Yeah, I’ve noticed that. I buy a physical copy of the book if illustrations or diagrams are a critical component. They do look at least somewhat better on the larger screen of my ipad than they do on a kindle, although the kindle is better for novels.
I’m pretty sure that turning an equation into a fuzzy JPEG in an electronic document authorizes Donald Knuth to execute you in “whatsoever a manner is most salutary as a deterrent to malefactors of like intent”.
gee, how punny. haha

That’s more like it.
Someone I sort of know is serving 15 years for making and selling opioids. A stupid thing.
But I’ve seen some newspaper articles about his arrest, and the cop mentions the piles of books, “hundreds of books” in the house.
I first saw this guy almost thirty years ago at used book sales, and his father started selling used books after he retired, so it’s not a surprise, just interesting that the cop thought it was worth mentioning. Maybe the cop didn’t get to arrest many “intellectuals”. Imagine going from piles of books to a place where books aren’t all that liked, and may be hard to get.
I’d rather not, that would drive me right out of my tiny little mind.
Right there with you. It feels gauche to admit in a group like this, but I also hate owning books. They’re heavy, take a lot of space, are a hassle to move, collect dust, and never get re-read anyway. The only books I own now are my truly treasured ones (eg. my signed copy of Neuromancer) and some technical and school books (which as others have said, are harder to read electronically because of diagrams).
Every other book I read gets donated to the library when I’m done, or in one case I did recycle a bunch. I know, the horror! But last time I moved, I took the pile to three different libraries and nobody would take them. Not all libraries take donations, and some that do are full up until their next sidewalk sale. Obviously I didn’t recycle anything valuable, just crappy airport novels and the like. Still felt bad doing it, but I had no other options.
I’m truly surprised that nobody has brought this up yet: full bookshelves are a good form of added insulation, both thermal and acoustic.
