After our trip to the Galapagos, our neighbours wanted to see our pictures, so we invited the family over. There were many pictures of boobies, and their 12-year-old giggled throughout.

The loss of our tits to climate change will be no mean feat but we saw it coming and I think it’s important to keep abreast of the steady and unrelenting effects of nature out of kilter. Breeding by great tits is a privilege, not a right. It’ll be a shame to say TaTa to these feathered friends, for whom I’ve always held a soft spot, but if there is something that we seem to have forgotten it is “never shit in your own nest”.
