One of the most disturbing things about that scene is the idea that crazy old Dr. Soong spent who-knows-how-many hours programming his android son to be a literal sex machine.

I think – and I’m straining my brain to accurately recall – that when I use the word data organically, I still pronounce it da-ta (or more precisely DA-da), not day-ta. They seem like different words now with different meanings, with day-ta only meaning the name of the character.

Even less related: I recall an interview with the not-at-all nasally Scouser Paul McCartney stating that he found The Beach Boys’ “nasally” accents charming.

IIRC, the reason Riker sat that way was due to a back injury the actor (Jonathan Frakes) had when he was younger.

First couple seasons of TNG contained far too many remakes of TOS episodes. The episode you refer to is one such episode.
Having just watched Discover’s take on Mirror, Mirror the show runners really should stop recycling TOS plots. It was better than Enterprise’s take, but the concept is just worn out.

At the risk of digressing 
there is no single British pronunciation of ‘Aunt’.
It’s ‘ant’ here in NW England, and ‘aren’t’ somewhere down south.
Anyway: I’ve always said ‘data’ and have only seen a couple of episodes of ‘Star Trek’.
Then again, my accent’s not wildly different to Sir Patrick’s

For “Aunt” I switch my pronunciation between both of those myself seemingly at random 
sometimes i wonder what that sounds like from someone else’s point of view.
He may have changed the way you say it, but is the word “data” singular or plural?

Used a given name for an Android it is singular. Used as a noun referring to information it is plural (the singular being “datum”).
