Bugs with the new BBS system

This is a bug caused by a post being deleted, @eviltrout can you have a look at it?

something weird happened to me today in the avatar thread

I made an avatar for WearySky, dragged the files into the reply box and hit reply. then, from that thread, I navigated away from BBS for a while. did not go to my profile, went directly to another webpage. did not pass go, did not collect $200 dollars.

when I came back a while later, MY avatar had been changed to the file I gave WearySky. I opened up my profile and switched it back without any issues. But we both had the same avatar for a while, which is pretty wack.

guess Iā€™ll shout out @zogstrip here, too since Iā€™m inferring he made the avatar upload feature?

Discourse isnā€™t letting me simultaneously bold and italicize that ā€œMYā€ i wrote up there like it usually does: but maybe itā€™ll do it when I post?

Yeah that bold and italic issue is a new parser bug. We changed parsers recently.

The other thing youā€™re describing sounds like a local-to-your-machine browser file caching freakout, not a Discourse problem.

well, if people suddenly start flagging me because my avatar is one of the images from my pron folder, youā€™ll know what happenedā€¦

when I try to post a pic from the web, the URL doesnā€™t convert to an image like it used to, but not in every case. I noticed it a few days ago and just thought it was a fluke, but it did it again just now for this imageā€™s url:

Did you try just the URL ending in .jpg like so?

<img src='//cdck-file-uploads-global.s3.dualstack.us-west-2.amazonaws.com/boingboing/original/2X/7/7b497f27e13c8e77301a4430e411257161e8ec87.jpg'>

If we canā€™t tell it is an image, e.g. the URL does not end in typical image extensions, we canā€™t load it.

much obliged. Iā€™m still learning how to internet.

BTW, we fixed the bold and italic bug. Sorry about that!

Just for reference - I actually saw us both with the same avatar, when it happened (sorry, just saw this thread now :))

One wonders: Is it possible to italicize and then bolden one word within? I canā€™t seem to pull it off. Though I imagine it doesnā€™t come up too often.

You can bold and italicize a word within.

You can **bold and *italicize* a word within**.

Hmm. But not the converse? Oh, well. Like I said, it would be an uncommon occurrence. I generally italicize titles of books, movies, and television series (while putting the titles of particular episodes and short stories in quotes), and I was trying to emphasize a particular word in a multi-word title.

well, yeah. but not the way you mean:

*Is it possible to italicize and then* **bolden** *one word within?*

Is it possible to italicize and then bolden one word within?

*Is it possible to italicize and then* ***bolden*** *one word within?*

Is it possible to italicize and then bolden one word within?

Thatā€™ll work. Thanks!

I moved 22 posts to a new topic: Problems in Firefox 24 on BBS

It looks like there is currently an issue in the responsive sizing for the Discourse ā€˜From our forumsā€™ area below single posts such that the width is set to an iphone size when viewed on an ipad, so thereā€™s a strange gray ā€œblankā€ next to it when compared to the width the post is being displayed as. Hereā€™s a screenshot from my Retina iPad 3 using Safari to view the post:

Okay, the system says I can neither upload nor input an image, so youā€™ll have to look for yourself; or ask @beschizza for the image I send him via email a short time ago.

Hereā€™s one; apologies if itā€™s been mentioned before.

When I click on someoneā€™s avatar to send a Private Message, the Private Message button within the pop-up is unresponsive. I have to go to that personā€™s profile first, where the Private Message button works just fine.

Google Chrome Version 29.0.1547.76 m on Windows 8.

I go to my profiles ā€œpostā€ page ( http://bbs.boingboing.net/users/fireshadow/activity/posts ) and can only see as far back as September 23rd. I see it using both Firefox and Chrome. Is this intentional?

Sorry about this. Iā€™ve fixed it now
