Sure, there is some mutual partnership. I think it made a lot more sense in the earlier days of the Cold War. Ever since MAD, and definitely since the fall of the Soviet Union, I think we can scale way back on how much we are propping up other countries.
Chinese translation:
"Worldwide Peace is at hand. If only imperialist pigs ceased to expand their world-domination, we as a a human race would finally be free!â
USA News:
"Worldwide Peace is at hand. If only communist pigs ceased to expand their world-domination, we as a a human race would finally be free!â
Some small 3d world country:
âPlease stop shooting each other! Our babies are drowning in your blood!â
Aliens:
âI bet 20 stars on the cockroaches!â
Get a room!
Good lord this BobbaBoosh character is a complete cliche of the dumb American, and on behalf of all Americans who arenât complete brainwashed assholes, I apologize on his behalf.
Please, people in the rest of the world reading this thread, donât think weâre all as moronic and thuggish as he is.
Loud mouthed, disrespectful, drones on about a war he had nothing to do with - so how many times have you been busted back to an E-2 Bobba?
Or that he represents most men and women in uniform.
So in actuality, I wouldnât be surprised if the U.S. alone accounted for closer to 2/3 of all global military spending.
Got to feed the 0.01 percent somehowâŚ
After all, if we donât wage more wars, who will future generations have around to honor on Memorial Day? What a horrible dystopian future it will be when there are no more living veterans of actual wars â who will our children salute in Memorial Day parades? Wonât someone please think of the children?
All good sir. I am, of course, well aware of this and heart you guys and a lot of things about America muchly. I just take my trolling career very seriously so when someone pokes the hornets nest I like to make sure they find more hornets nests inside the first one.
@Seraphim there are many good people who wear the uniform. While I personally feel that the best way to reduce world militarism is to take the tools of warmongering from the hands of politicians (who invariably have little to no skin in the fight), I accept that a military is a necessary thing and donât have an in principle problem with a small, efficient military. Also, FWIW, my grandfathers served in WWII. One of them was shot in the ankle within a week of what would be the end of fighting and he spent the next 3-4 years in rehabilitation and the rest of his life applying ointment to his ankle every morning.
Is it worth it?
A new winter coat and shoes for the wife
And a bicycle on the boyâs birthday
Itâs just a rumor that was spread around town
By the women and children
Soon weâll be shipbuildingâŚ
Within weeks theyâll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin
Once again
Itâs all weâre skilled in
We will be shipbuildingâŚ
With all the will in the world
Diving for dear life
When we could be diving for pearls.
Its all good Teapot, loud mouths in uniform drive me nuts. So many good people doing such good things and fools like that guy make them all look bad. I agree with you about the military and politicians. I read once about how as the number of WWII vets filled the US congress they were more and more against war, they had seen it first hand and knew its horrors. The current crop of vets is so instilled with the brothers-in-arms vibe that they canât see the forest for the trees unfortunately. I have a friend that has done two tours of Iraq, he was very pro Bush back in the day, I asked him why - âWell he gets me pay raisesâ âBut he also puts you into harms wayâŚâ and that is where the conversation usually ended.Â
As for me, I have been a student of military history and strategy and tactics my entire life. I understand war, I understand the use of military, and why it should be the very last thing ever put into use. So many people do not get that including those at the leash of the dogs of war. I know for a fact that the US would not be the good place it is if it were not for the friendship, help, and general good will of its allies and partners across the globe. We Americans as a group are better people because of our allies and friends, not in spite of them. Also FWIW, I can trace back my family through every significant US war back to the Revolution. At the same time somewhere I have an uncle that served in the RAF during the blitz, and cousins that were British military as well. If your nick is any indication that you are from that magical land of tea perhaps someday I will be able to by you a cup. Be forewarned though, like any barbarian I drink mine
straight up, no milk or sugar.
Keep on buzzing!
teapot is merely a nickname. Weâve got the laughably impotent RAAF
I understand war, I understand the use of military, and why it should be the very last thing ever put into use.
Nothing truer could have been said.
Thanks for this, I forgot how much I love this song, and I never noticed what it was about. And I just stumbled on this nice live version:
I fear the others.
