In The Year 2525 – ya can’t get spacier than that. Be sure you’ve had your dose of Hawai’ian Baby Woodrose seeds.
Ooo - too too long since I’ve watched that, BRB…
Coincidentally this landed in my inbox today:
5 minutes walk from my house…
Having seen King Crimson on their 50th anniversary tour a few weeks back I’m happy to give this a go, but according to one of my fave authors:
Hmmm…
Oh totally agree
Another number for you. It’s space rock…in a sense.
Anybody remember this?
It’s not a DeathStar - it’s a Telstar - one of the first orbiting communication satellites. Which of course spawned musical imagination for the adventure represented by space exploration. Hence, the famous Telstar tune…
I think you are correct

Loulie Jean Norman, the soprano who provided the vocals for the original Star Trek theme song, died on August 2nd.
I am somewhat shocked by the lack of references to the theremin as a go-to space instrument.
…and why has nobody linked to this spacey classic?
that is electronica not rock /pedant
While the video is awesome and I love the 50s sci-fi b-movie thing it isn’t really ‘space music’
One Hour Space Rock
IIRC in that scene the music the Phantom’s playing sounds like a (electric?) piano. So why did they go to the trouble of getting TONTO for the background? (A: Visuals)
Hawkwind has always had dystopian lyrics. “Sonic Attack” is a parody of the nuclear “four minute warning” and many of their songs were/are influenced by the cold war. Maybe if they were based in sunny California they would be a bit different. Or maybe not if you consider the Nike Missile system.
When I was living in the bay area I picked up a some government issued records that were guides for local authorities in case of nuclear attack. I always meant to sample them in a dance track. I should probably dig them up and post them to youtube for others to use.
Remember when 2001 seemed so far away?
Well, now it still is - but not in a good way. Just spracken…
Daevid Allen and Gong should be included, but I always thought the “space rock” label was a bit flawed.
It kinda still does…
I was expecting a jetpack. What I got was a collapsible pedal scooter.
Where are the atomic helicopters and robo-jet-cars we were promised? And paper clothes, slave’bots, and lunch pills?
Meanwhile, I forget if anyone mentioned this, but space music at least goes back to chants in echo-y caverns and basilicas, or maybe a bone flute played just inside the cave mouth. Breathy tones can lead your mind to the cosmos, especially if you’ve chewed datura or poppies. Spaced out!
