Because of the film Apocalypto, I can no longer think of Mayan temples without envisioning decapitated bodies being thrown down their steps… and — now! – whatever unusual sounds resulted from that.

Unsurprisingly Mel Gibson didn’t exactly go out of his way to make that movie historically accurate.
For example, there’s no evidence the Maya practiced the kind of large-scale human sacrifice depicted in the film.
