Sounds like a black-speed-noise-metal band.

As if millions of voices cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced.

Well that was enough to convince me to not start a war with the Aztecs. What a uniquely terrifying sound.

Somewhere in multiverse L-Space, there’s a copy of Guns, Germs and Bagpipes.

Doesn’t that depend on whether you are blowing the whistle or running from the whistle?

“Ask not for whom the whistle warbles…”

Certainly up there with the Stuka siren.

I have a 3d printed iteration of it; it’s loud and upsetting.

The whistle sound itself? 4:30 into the video.

Spoiler alert: definitely a clay whistle making a sound.

The truth of this one is highly questionable*, but the story is kinda cool
“The pre-colonial form of pozole, which combined human flesh and the white cacahuazintle corn”

*Stories of Pre-Colombian cannibalism were written down largely by Spanish colonizers and many were extremely embellished as a way to justify genocide.
