Basically if any character deficit can be projected onto pictures of the person they can usually fall into one category of deserving victim or another, whatever the crime committed against them was.

Yes. Yes, would. In fact, I would say that if this didn’t rise to the level of a criminal offense, after firing the officers who have “bad judgement” you also write some new laws to make sure it is a criminal offense.

You can’t say that you consider this type of behavior as unacceptable if those 3 rapists remain on payroll. Reaching a settlement without punishing the deputies = paying for sex

They should at least put that in the police budget. “If you don’t rape and murder as often as we expect you to, you can buy some new stuff at the end of the year!”
Some incentive to not indulge their sociopathic impulses.
But, better to just fire them all. Keep a few detectives and someone to sign off on insurance claims.

I’d like to know those deputies names.
Ronaldine Pierre and William Strong were the 2 deputies that were charged. Those charges were later dropped
There was a 3 deputy there that wasn’t charged and whose name wasn’t released

At the end of the day any real reforms have to come from the top down. Sometimes that means the voters have to pay the consequences for electing politicians who allow such atrocities to take place in order to create social pressure for change.

District Attorneys are part and parcel part of the same blue-striped gang as the astoundingly awful criminals who audaciously call themselves Police. The District Attorney’s complicity is a job requirement; without a close working relationship with the repeatedly rapacious renegades, a DA couldn’t indict a mass-shooter, and sure as hell couldn’t indict a member of the thin blue line gang.
To call american police worse than mafia is to insult mafia - at least the mafia provide loans to members of their community (when they’re not extorting money, naturally). the police just openly assault, murder, rape, and torture people and provide no services whatsoever.

as far as i can tell there’s no safety in cops getting free reign to do what they want. yes, the worst effects are on people of color - yet even for my own white skinned,. privileged self interest - i don’t want the inevitable fascism that it entails.
white americans are deluding themselves if they still believe that there’s some sort of balancing act to be had where we can use skin color to gain societal advantage and still have a nice healthy society for “ourselves”
frankly, the historical we tried it, and it didn’t work. that american dream is dead - or should be. and it’s necessary for the current we to actually dismantle it now.
climate change, pandemics, vast wealth disparities, poor healthcare, rampant homelessness - it will only get worse from here on out unless we recognize and work to change the capitalist racism game helping to drive it all

I would argue that they already do without recognizing it.
In Chicago, the blood lust to harm and kill Black people means the cops will chase teenagers for 45-60 minutes through multiple suburbs and city neighborhoods, with the chase only ending when there is a crash and/or fatal gunshot. Prior to that, any white people harmed as ‘friendly fire’ will never show up in the news, but they get hurt and killed too as part of the process.
At some point, there will be enough families affected that they’ll start to realize racism hurts them too. Nowhere near as much, of course, but even the slightest inconvenience is deeply felt.
