This wasn’t force majeure. It was outright fraud.

In other lines of business, the company that did this would face criminal and (existential threat) civil actions. For Facebook, it’s just Thursday.

The unfortunate thing about getting zuckerpunched is that, while it’s wholly predictable at a high level, it still manages to take you by surprise when it counts.

When did all this happen? One of CollegeHumor’s founders (Ricky Van Veen) has been Head of Global Creative Strategy at Facebook since 2016, so if he knew about this and the risk it would pose to his ex-employees, it’s a particularly shitty move.

I too only use the two millennia old meaning of Latin descended words. Everyone after the 6th century who used it to refer to taxes and then devastation was simply wrong. /s
