Wonderful news! I hope the agreement sticks.
I don’t know how much effort FARC will put into it or how trustworthy their word is in the long term. Up until recently they’ve still been running drug operations in the country and to varying degrees in Venezuela as well. I would gladly take this as a sign of things changing for the better but not going to hold my breath over it.
Yeah, I share your concerns, but you know what? It’s a starting point. They’ve been fighting what is basically a civil war for almost as long as I’ve been alive. There are no good guys or bad guys in the battle anymore. It’s way past time to end it.
That’s fantastic. But they’re missing a chance to go for the longest war record. Just today I stumbled across the Three Hundred and Thirty Five Years’ War between the Scilly Islands and The Netherlands while waiting for a brake job.
Even an imperfect peace is a worthy goal. Do not let the perfect be the enemy of the good.
Have a look at the article “List of wars extended by diplomatic irregularities”. There’s an argument that Poland might actually still be at war with Germany, technically.
FARC is an acronym, so should be in all caps.
Are they going to keep fark.com running?
What is the basis of this argument? afaik the 1990 border treaty settled all open issues of the post-WW2 decades.
Because they’re all bad guys. But I’m interested in the part of the agreement reminiscent of the S. Africa Truth Commission - could bring resolution to a lot of unsolved murders and disappearances.
Hopefully your brakes didn’t need to be replaced due to skirmishes in the other un-ending war…
The longest war record? Oceania has always been at war with Eastasia.
