Columbia students and allies - a roundup of news

The protesters aren’t even all “Pro-Palestinian.” Some are just anti-genocide. We should all be anti-genocide, right?

The University administration respects all student protests, just not this one. Students have fought for many important causes over the years, and their right to protest is sacrosanct. In this case, however, we must arrest and slander them.

We will not look back and regret this decision. Although we were wrong about not admitting women, abolitioning racial quotas, US involvement in Vietnam, and divesting from apartheid South Africa, we are confident that this time is different.

Rules are rules, and the rules never change.

Something is seriously wrong with anyone who isn’t, IMO.

Thing is, and you probably know this, there are a lot of people who clearly aren’t. They won’t admit it directly, but when they say Israel’s actions in Gaza aren’t genocide, then you point out the UN has declared it a genocide, they shift to why it’s justified.

So they are definitely pro-genocide.

Fucked up but true.

Well, the valedictory speech at UCLA (?) was cancelled partly over her minor in “resistance to genocide.” So apparently pro-genocide is good?

Marge has been investigating. She’s concerned they all bought the same tent from the local Walmart.

You’d think, but it turns out that – plot twist – being anti-genocide means you’re antisemitic!

“Leftwing fascists?” WTF is he talking about? Like, liberal Nazis? I have no idea…

They do not want another Kent State scenario.

(No one should, but politically that would be very bad for TPTB.)

I would argue that Republicans have backed Columbia into a corner because they DO want a Kent State scenario. Their grasp of history is feeble so they forget that it didn’t end simply with ‘Commie’ students being killed…it set off a much larger process across the country.

Republican Senators made it clear to three Ivy League presidents that it was unacceptable to recognize anti-genocide or even pro-Palestinians-not-being-murdered protests as legitimate. Those Senators have called for the National Guard to step in. Meanwhile, negotiations with student protestors requires time (even if agreed upon, creating a schedule for divestiture is difficult due to the non-liquidity of some investments) and cool heads, and Columbia has a day-long multi graduation event in the quads that takes about 8 weeks to set up which is scheduled to occur in less than 3 weeks.

TBTB are actively pushing Columbia into choosing a nuclear option. And since even the NYPD is saying they don’t believe the students are breaking the law, even more militaristic groups are going to continue to be brought in until something gives.

That was my point, but yours is incredibly valid too.

Yep. they want an excuse to kill people they hate.

This guy needs support from both parties down to the local level to keep the genocide going. He’s getting it, whether to immanetize the eschaton/rapture (Josh Hawley), call for another Kent State, or satisfy defense contractors and elites (everyone who voted for the aid package). The pressure to comply seems universal.
