Right?
As soon as I hear that laconic, “I’m pretending to sound like your weird but humorous neighbor” voice, I turn it off. The story has never been worth hearing about.

Current price here is around AU$8.40 a US gallon
or AU$2.21 a litre for those of us that use real measurements
I was unaware that I hated her until you posted this. Like, as soon as I heard that voice it all came flooding in, but I didn’t have a focal point for my anger until you gave it a name.
Indeed.
Reporters who do what we called the “funnies” in my old newsroom – the silly human interest stories that often close out the show – tend to devolve into lazy and annoying self-parody after doing them for more than a few years.
They’re also out of date. I paid £1.51 a litre this week at a UK supermarket. BP/Shell was £1.57.
£1.51 a litre would be US$9 a gallon apparently.
Oh God, it’s like proto-YouTube voice.
And a cousin of “Pretending I’m not reading something” This American Life voice.
Can concur. Where I am in the US northeast, there are the winter driving conditions, but even more than that it’s like being swept up into an arms race if you have to drive. I would be totally fine with our little, sturdy hatchback, but it’s scary as all get out when you’re surrounded by these huge SUVs and trucks with increasingly distracted drivers behind the wheel.
ETA: came back to add- I also don’t gripe about gas prices! I gripe about the lack of public transportation.
Many Americans also hate socialism but are more than happy to cash their monthly social security check. I’m pretty sure most of those Americans who responded that they’d be happy with increased gas prices in support of Ukraine will be the same ones whining that it’s Biden’s fault gas prices are so high.
