Continuing coronavirus happenings (Part 1)

I wish these “famous person has Covid” stories would include some indication of where they got it. “Antonio Banderas got Covid because he didn’t wear his mask to cover his nose” might actually do some good.

I posted a (non-one boxed) MMWR report upthread that supports that conclusion. Kids pretty much overall get severely ill less often than adults, but if they do, it is just as bad. And with Trumpian governors pushing to reopen, it will get bad pretty damn fast.

Still my most favorite Zorro movie…

“Two bits,
Four bits,
Six bits, a Peso…
All for Zorro,
Stand up and say so!”

“I understand that my relative lost a close family member. I get that. My heart breaks for her. But to get on a plane while you’re ill and travel to another state, knowing full well you could infect everyone you are around is, in my opinion, selfish and unforgivable.

I expect that this whole family was freely intermingling, which means that not all the blame rests on the one person who attended the funeral.

This twitter thread is about Britain, but is also probably true for other countries too.

For what it’s worth, I would anticipate highschool and college athletes being more mature than their professional peers.

Though it looks like college football players are organizing and may form a union (good!) in order to try and force a football season (bad!).

Because the only people flying voluntarily are the goons who believe the virus is a hoax caused by Bill Gates and the telecom companies, so you’d better arm yourself?

This was an almost inevitable consequence of colleges going online-only:

As much as it feels like a scam, I honestly can’t put my finger on why I hate it (other than the obvious ones, that it favors the wealthy and that it brings more probably-irresponsible people into my backyard). Is it really worse to do distance learning from a building full of other college students than it is to do it from your parents’ basement?

That is my favourite Zorro movie too.

I think the idea is to create such a cushy environment that students won’t want to wander “off campus”. Having worked as a dorm desk clerk at one of the US’s notorious party schools during college, I think this view is very naive. IMHO, there will most definitely be “scofflaws” who won’t respect the sanctity of the bubble.
