The people running the colleges are, more or less by definition, supposed to know better than the people attending the colleges.
Every time someone makes a decision to re-open a business or institution during the pandemic they are also making a conscious choice to put lives at risk. In some cases this may be an unavoidable, calculated risk. But in no cases do the people making that decision get to absolve themselves of all responsibility for the outcome.
Nor have the administration of Syracuse done that. They want to enforce the policies that everyone, including the students, agreed to, but if there are conseqences they will certainly have to answer for the policies. Even if they were not the only people responsible for making the decision to reopen.
I feel so dim, but I donât get it. The âsimulationâ was a real concert, and they tracked the movements of everyone, what they touched with the marking hand sanitizer stuff. They are relying on the 48 hour ahead of time testing to assume no one will get sick? Will they further keep track if anyone did?
I am not sure I agree with that, like, at all. Given the unacceptable percentage of false-negatives in most tests, I dunno. It seems like this is something that could have been put off until we have a vaccine. I hope their study continues to track the audience to see if any get sick AFTER the studyâŚ
Zoom is having some technical issues nationally that are impacting connectivity. The vendor is in the process of correcting the issues and hopes to have it fixed soon.
We will send another message as soon as we know all issues have been corrected.
just like guns, there will always be people who donât care, or people who donât understand the risks, or people who actively want to hurt others
and just like with guns, itâd all be fine if the responsible parties ( eek ) didnât wind up hurting other people. guns and viruses donât stop with just one person. they endanger the entire community, and itâs up to the people representing the community to enact regulations to avoid the public safety threats in the first place
yes, students should have acted responsibly. but so should have the administration. neither group did, and now everyone - at the university and in the wider community - is worse off for it
About the only thing that could speed the process is challenge trials - broadly regarded as unethical, but widely practiced in the past, often among prisoners or other populations incapable of informed consent.
I was stunned when I saw those being actively promoted in the US. Worst idea possible (other than skipping trials altogether, I guess? We have reached a point where âworstâ has ceased to have real meaning.)
I knew that some of our more simple minded compatriots have been restarting high school football. But yesterday I saw something in news footage of one such game that sent me into a bit of a screaming rant.
Not only was there a marching band present at one of those ill-advised sportsball games, but there was a tuba in said marching band. An actual fucking tuba, being powered by actual human lungs. How in the hell does that particular instrument have any place in 2020 except as a mechanism to speed up challenge trials?
âŚand itâs a safe bet that, as soon as a Chinese vaccine is announced, the US corporate media is going to be flooded with unsubstantiated stories about how the evil Chinese drugs are ineffective and harmful.
It was reported on NPR this afternoon but I canât find the link.
From what Iâve heard, he showed no symptoms the 2nd time, but they donât yet know if he could be spreading itâŚ
