Continuing coronavirus happenings (Part 1)

If only.

On Monday, Senator Ron Johnson was quoted in the Washington Post’s continuing pandemic coverage as saying he would go into the senate chambers “wearing a moon suit” in order to vote on Judge Barrett (he won’t wear a mask of course, because he’s an asshole, but never mind). In the same interview he said:

“I’ll still say it — I’ll probably get beat up in the press for this — we should have followed the Sweden model [
] Isolate the sick, quarantine them, protect the vulnerable, and allow the rest of society to carry on with life as carefully as possible. You know, be the germaphobes we’ve all become. That makes sense to me. I think long term, we’ll take a look back at Sweden — I don’t think their economy was harmed anywhere near, certainly, as [much] percentage-wise as the American economy or the rest of Europe, and I think they’ll recover a whole lot faster.

So, no- because Republicans are the stupidest people on the planet, we have to keep pointing out that Sweden’s approach was a disaster.

Not sure what they were expecting. This season will not end well.

Science is so cool! I said back in March that given 2 years we would know this thing inside and out, as it turns out I may have been a bit pessimistic on that. I like being wrong in that direction.

Science is indeed so cool! I love this quote from the article:

“I thought, I was the first guy in the world to see the virus in such good resolution,” Dr. Li recalled.

That’s how I felt when I interned at the ABCL in Brisbane. Sometimes I’d be walking out to our test screen houses and think, “I’m the first person that will know the answer to this question!”

Some are calling it tasteless, but I don’t think they’re referring to the flavor.

If they find it tasteless, then they should get tested.

Never should’ve started. I heard them talking on the radio yesterday about how Eagles fans might get tickets to see the team play in person. That, on top of all the people in the news angry their kids are being deprived of playing in high school, makes me wonder if there needs to be some intervention for sports addiction.

These folks are acting like it’s the end of their world if they don’t get to watch or play sports until next year. I can understand why team owners want this, because they’re losing money. The parents and kids need help understanding what they are really risking here.

New Zealand got it right. Happened a few days ago.

If you think that’s bad, imagine if sometime took away their “reality” TV.

Nero was competent compared to Trump, as were Caligula, Commodus and Caracalla.

Trump is more like Maximinus Thrax (no political experience, started the Crisis of the Third Century), but he believes he is Diocletian.

They should keep those, and add plots involving the pandemic. That would allow the cast and crew to wear masks and model responsible behavior for the audience.

“ Horrible for each individual, of course, but also what is it doing to the entire country long term
Going to be a lot of regrets.

It’s becoming known as Covid brain fog: troubling cognitive symptoms that can include memory loss, confusion, difficulty focusing, dizziness and grasping for everyday words. Increasingly, Covid survivors say brain fog is impairing their ability to work and function normally.”

Lowering the “IQ” of a large portion of your people- and your children? Well - let’s just say to our corporate masters that it’s not a competitive advantage.

A new Generation Lead.

And no, our corporate masters have never needed us to be intelligent or particularly productive, all they’ve ever (wisely) cared about is ensuring insurmountable inequality in power.

Robot chauffers and whores will just be the icing on the cake.

Someone needs to do the science & engineering to bring products to market. They won’t be here.

Someone needs to come up with new grifting and tax avoidance strategies.
